Beacons Gully is a 444+ acre Mitigation Bank located in Evangeline Parish. Prior to the 1950’s this property was utilized for rice cultivation and a crawfish farm. It is characterized by wetlands and flood plains.
The goal of this project will be to restore critical wetland functions and improve water quality by decreasing agricultural runoff, erosion and helping to minimize pollution to the receiving waters of the Mermentau Basin. The mitigation bank will reestablish 20+ acres of bottomland hardwood forests that are important in regulating flooding and stream discharge and will increase habitat for wildlife, including migratory birds and fish.
