The intention of LTL’s Conservation Initiatives is to promote healthier soil, cleaner water and enhanced wildlife habitats throughout Louisiana. Two distinct ways in which LTL aims to accomplish this goal is through its Blueway and Property Initiatives.
A Blueway plan typically includes plans for a green corridor, or stream-side management zone to protect water quality, stabilize riverbanks and maintain scenic views. The majority of the stream-side management zone along most paddling trails is typically in private ownership; therefore participation in managing the green corridor along the paddling trail requires voluntary actions by private landowners.
Regarding Property Initiatives, LTL utilizes partnerships to carry out long-term coastal remediation, farmland preservation, and wildlife habitat protection through the use of land conservation education, land donation, and long-term monitoring of protected lands.
